1st Major Work

 

• 1st room's theme: a fairy tale story (The Snow White) & a theme park

• Young Girls (5-8 years old)

I chose the themes for my first major project. I tried to think about my childhood before starting designing the room. When I recall my childhood, I liked warm color like Pink or Red so I usually carried a pink bag and wore pink shoes. Thus, I chose Pink as the main color for young girls room. In addition, I liked to read fairy tale stories, imaging the story in my head. I also thought "if the story were real?". I wanted to improve the imagination of children by decorating the room as if real fantasy world!!



 

At the first, I researched about my first theme. I looked up www.houzz.co.uk , which is the useful website that collects the trends of interior, furniture and product.

 

I found some examples that I wanted to refer to my design.
 

 

 It is quite unique theme design by putting a tent.

There are many animal dolls that children love.

It reminds of a princess's room.

 

 

 

 

 

• Making Process

 

 

Firstly, I made the basic ground in 16.00 m² and I chose the wallpaper and floor design and texture. I chose different wallpaper for just one wall because I thought if I put all the same wallpaper, it will look boring for children.

I chose large size windows since I wanted to make the children's room more bright by being in the sun through the windows.

After putting the windows, I put the main furniture in the room, such as a bed, a chair and a closet and I also put the curtain, considering the suitable design in a children's room.

I added mall extra factors such as dolls, toys and Christmas tree, trying to express the theme of the room (The Snow White and Theme park). I tried to match the each furniture and objects' color in Pink and White.

I think if I put many color in a room, It will look complex and distracted.

Reflection; while designing young girls' room, I had a difficulty because it was difficult for me to display some dolls and toys those sizes were small. I wanted to design in pink colour since when I recalled the young girls, they usually carry pink goods, such as pink bag, a doll which wears a pink dress and pink shoes. I also preferred pink color when I was a little. I wanted to express  The Snow White which is a fairy tale story by putting the balloons which mean 7 dwarfs in the Snow White story and a Christmas tree to express the snow of winter. I want for little girls to feel like they are in the fairy tale story in this room.

During making this first project, I felt it was difficult to design a particular room for certain people because there were something that they needed for their comfortable lives. I also think there is distinct reason why the furniture or product is placed on the fixed place. I will try to design more suitable to each person by designing my rooms for major project!

Major Project - Software

 

'HOMESTYLER'

 

 

Before starting my major project, I needed to consider software between 'HOMESTYLER' and 'ROOMMSKETCHER'.

I chose the first one after comparing each by using those.

 

The reason I chose 'HOMESTYLER' is I can check my progress in 3D. In addition, there were many kinds of furniture and other products I could select in it. On the other hand, I had to pay money to use 3D in 'ROOMSKETCHER'.

I needed to sign in this software at the first and than I started creating my first design.

At the first, I would like to introduce the menu factors on the top of the page.

I can go back to the previous stage.

I can put the stage back.

I needed to know how I use it, so I looked for the introduction and watched tutorial videos.

; I tried to master each function before starting designing my room. It was quite easy to use for me than I thought. I think  If people follow the sequence well, They can design the rooms quickly and easily.

• There are 4 steps which I will use to make my own interior design.

Step1 - I have to choose the floor shape at the first. I can choose one among the templates or make my own shape.

 

I chose square shape.

 

 

 

Step2 - I can design the building factors, such as moldings, windows, doors and so on.

Step3 - there are a variety of products and furniture in the second section. There are also categories that make it easy to find those.

Step4 - I can choose the floor and wallpaper in the third section. they divided by material, such as tiles and carpets.

 

 

Actually, The way to design the rooms can be easy by using 'HOMESTYLER'. I could follow easily due to the tutorial.

 

 

Now, I will start creating my own interior designs!!

I received a paper which was written some words concerning websites in Digital Art class.

 

there were difficult words to me among those, so I tried to find those with my partner Moohyun.

 

• BROWSER : A web browser (commonly referred to as a browser) is a software application for retrieving, presenting and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web. • FLASH : Flash, a popular authoring software developed by Macromedia, is used to create vector graphics-based animation programs with full-screen navigation interfaces, graphic illustrations, and simple interactivity in an antialiased, resizable file format that is small enough to stream across a normal modem connection.

• FOOTER : common text that appears at the bottom of every page. It usually contains the page number.

• STRETCH : It was IBM's first attempt at building transistorized computers and was designed to "stretch" the speed of its current vacuum tube models by a factor of 100.

• TYPEFACE : The design of a set of printed characters, such as Courier, Helvetica and Times Roman. The terms "typeface" and "font" are used interchangeably, but the typeface is the primary design, while the font is the particular implementation and variation of the typeface, such as bold or italic (or none; the normal, upright style).

• UX(USABILITY) : Usability is how easy hardware or software is to operate, especially for the first-time user. Considering how difficult applications and websites can be to navigate through, one would wish that all designers took usability into greater consideration than they do.

• Web architecture : an approach to the design and planning of websites that involves technical, aesthetic and functional criteria. (=structure)

• HTML : The standard markup language for creating web pages and web applications.

 

 

• Interface elements : elements used to offer a consistent visual language to represent information stored in computers.

 

• Plug-ins : a plug-in module or plug-in software

 

• Resolution : the density of dots that make up the image when printing.

 

• Web Hosting :
  the activity or business of providing storage space and access for websites.
   
   

• Wireframes : a skeletal three-dimensional model in which only lines and vertices are represented.

 I started decorating my website in earnest.

 

 

• 'Home' page

Firstly, I designed 'Home' page by putting logo, slogan and menu button.

I wanted to make my own logo, so I thought the name of the logo at the first and then considered the design. I was inspired from Philippe Starck's website logo,which I already researched for creating my website. I think his logo looks strong despite it used just color change, so I wanted to apply the effect to my logo to pay attention.

My website logo is S'UNY, which is my nickname that I am called from friends.

• 'Contact' page

I needed to put my information for people to contact to me.

I could not leave my detailed information, so I just write my Gmail and then I also made contact form to contact to me more easily. If someone send me some email, I will be happy by receiving other's ideas. I also put the google map to show where I am.

• 'About' page

 

At the first time when I heard about creating our own website, my tutor showed some 'About' pages of celebrities and she said it is the most important part of the website. I thought how could I express me well in this page. I found some biographies of others and then I started writing on 'MS word' at the first, because if I write wrong word or grammar, I can check it with red line.

and then I copied the content to my 'About' page. I made heading title on the page with suitable font.

In Digital Art class, my tutor checked and modified my biography.

Actually, I think I cannot express myself in detail, however, I write my changing process in Art and Design.

 

I will fill the 'Gallery' page soon with my works.

 

 

I realized that  there are many things that I have to do to improve my website while designing the website. However, it is really pleasant task for me.

If I design my website perfectly, I will show it to my parents and friends.

My Website-Creating Process

 

Creating my own website

I started making my own website using 'WIX.com' after researching artists' websites, which is a free homepage making website.

• Firstly, I logged in 'WIX' by connecting my google ID.

        : At the first page, there are many kinds of templates of websites that I can apply to my own website.

• I chose this design below because I thought I could focus on my works at the main page by putting images of my works in whole page like a image below.

• Secondly, I needed to modify some factors for my forward works , so I edited menu categories at the first. I just put 'Home', 'Gallery', 'Contact' and ' About' parts.

Reflection; It is my first time to make my own website, so I was delighted because I can show my works, my thought and all about me on my own page. At the first, I thought creating my own website would be difficult, so I could not challenge it before.

However, I made it successfully!!

 

Now, I will decorate my website in my style.

I found some designers' websites as examples to create my own website. There were many designers who have their own websites, so I chose 'Philippe Starck' who is a famous interior, furniture and product designer among them. The reason why I chose him is when I looked around his website, he included all of his information on his website in detail and his website is not only simple but also intense by using black and white images.





The image below is the menu page of his official website. 
At the first, I looked at the lovely logo on the head of the page. It is written just 'STARCK' in thin font, however, it looks quite strong by changing the color of the spelling. In addition, I think Philippe Starck is one of the most famous designers, so his price of fame also makes the logo more be looked powerful.


The background is a video that is moving slowly, which makes the mood of the website calm and strong. He also divided details into big categorization clearly. I determined that I will try to use a video which is concerning my progression route.

At the first, I saw his biography page. He wrote about him in detail, however, I did not want to read all of information when I looked at this page because it was too long. I thought I have to introduce myself briefly but I will put essential information about me.

I entered his portrait part, and I could see many images which were not title or any explanation.

Thus, I could not recognize the images mean what and what is related with the images. It was quite confusing to me. I think he and also I need to explain about the images and his works.

It is easy to contact to him by using 'Contact Box'. I think it is really good idea because people can contact to him without complicated steps. There is also no risk to be exposed my personal information, so I will use this contact box in my website. I also need to think how I can use the Contact page usefully.

; I received the paper which is about my major project, so I made a plan by filling out it.

 While writing this paper, I thought about specific schedule and I was quite worried about the possibility of my success, because I had to think about the theme of each room.
However, I will make my major project successfully!
